The nine children have been awarded a total of 3,184,801 kroner, the media outlet reports.

These are seven children between the ages of 12 and 17 and two children under the age of 12.

You may be entitled to compensation if you suffer serious and rare injuries caused by side effects from the vaccine, the Danish Patient Compensation Fund writes on its website.

The injuries must go beyond what you "should reasonably accept," it says.

This means that you typically cannot get compensation for mild side effects or side effects that disappear again.

Berlingske writes that the children have suffered side effects such as chronic hives, inflammation of the pericardium and myocardium, inflammation of the central nervous system and MOG disease, which is an autoimmune disease of the central nervous system.

There are a total of 66 cases at the Danish Patient Compensation Fund, where children between the ages of 12 and 17 have sought compensation for injuries after receiving a Covid-19 vaccine. There are 12 cases involving children between the ages of 5 and 11. This is stated in a statement on the Danish Patient Compensation Fund's website.

A total of 66 cases have been rejected, while two cases have not yet been decided.

The law gives children under the age of 15 the right to compensation for loss of earning capacity calculated based on the child's permanent impairment, even if the permanent impairment may never have an impact on the child's ability to hold a job.

In June 2021, the Danish Health Authority recommended that children between the ages of 12 and 15 be vaccinated against COVID-19. In November of the same year, the recommendation was expanded to also apply to children between the ages of 5 and 11.

The recommendation was made even though children rarely become seriously ill with COVID-19. However, the vaccinations were supposed to help slow down the chains of infection so that the children did not infect their parents and grandparents, it was said.

According to the status report for the childhood vaccination program between 2019 and 2021, a total of 638,077 vaccine doses were given to children between the ages of 5 and 15 in 2021.

Today, the Danish Health Authority only recommends the COVID-19 vaccine for people aged 65 or over or for younger people at increased risk of a serious course of the disease.
